The Halton Catholic District School Board provides the best in Catholic education to over 29, 000 students at our schools in the municipalities of Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville. Nine trustees are elected to the Halton Catholic District School Board by Catholic school supporters in Halton:

3 in Burlington
1 in Halton Hills
1 in Milton
4 in Oakville

Trustees in Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville are elected at large, while Burlington trustees are elected by ward (1 & 2, 3 & 6, 4 & 5). School supporters may contact any trustee, however, it is recommended they contact a trustee who represents their specific municipality. Three student trustees [1 from Burlington, 1 from North Halton (Halton Hills/Milton) and 1 from Oakville] are appointed annually by the Board to represent the interests of students.

The Education Act specifies that to be eligible to serve as a Catholic School Board trustee, an individual must be:

a Roman Catholic
a Catholic School Supporter
a resident within the jurisdiction of the district’s Catholic School Board
a Canadian citizen
at least 18 years of age
eligible to be an elector of the school board for which the person is a candidate
not disqualified from holding office by the Municipal Elections Act or any other legislation

*Board employees are not eligible to serve as trustees.

In the Halton Catholic District School Board, trustees’ major areas of responsibility include:

establishing the System’s mission and goals
providing programs for all students
establishing and monitoring Board policy
monitoring the implementation of provincial education policy
establishing a budget and monitoring its implementation
determining the type, size and location of schools
employing and compensating staff

The Board of Trustees meets on the first Tuesday and the third Tuesday of each month in the Board Room of the Catholic Education Centre - 802 Drury Lane in Burlington.
